I favour combining the experiences by taking a flatpack set of bookshelves into the session, and constructing it whilst pouring out the neuroses of one’s mind.
Though obviously I may require therapy for even harbouring such an idea.

So you leave your cart full of stuff you absolutely don’t need but couldn’t help picking up in the middle of the store, retire to the cafe for a plate of meatballs and lingonberry juice, before escaping the place. Or at least.. that’s what I do.

I am a therapist and I can tell you two things: An hour at Ikea is generally both more overwhelming AND more expensive than an hour in therapy.

Or financially prepared. And I never use half the crap we buy.

It was easier for me to get in and out of a Rolling Stones concert in downtown San Francisco than to park, shop and leave a store in the East Bay….
